With autumn soon meshing into winter its time to consider coats and the fashion trend for men’s coats. Coats are multi-functional. They keep us warm and dry and looking good.
What should we be looking for in a coat this year? For fall and winter 2009 the trend in men’s coats is very much retro looking. The Spring and Summer collections have been influenced by the economic climate and recession - pared down clothing with not much in the way of ostentatious bling. The Fall and Winter collections follow a similar theme but are not so depressing in outlook - Whilst they look back to the recession of the 80's they are not totally devoid of a modern cut.
With the retro look there is a running theme of a military cut to a lot of coats and jackets this year. It's a look we like but avoid overtly looking military jackets. If you want to keep with the trend, look for coats with elements of the military look, but that do not contain all elements. Lapels, double breasted, belts, buckles, pockets, buttons and long trench coats are all featured in this seasons look.
The coat should fit nicely rather than hang. Whilst it does not have to be body hugging, it should follow the contours of the body.
Colours range from the ever popular black to shades of grey. Grey is a colour featured heavily in the collections for Spring Summer 2010
Some of the nicer jackets we've seen this year:
Burberry, Short Trench Coat
A short trench double breasted trench coat. Buttonable epaulettes and Buttonable gun flap at left chest. Large horn buttons complete the military look. Priced around $1,110
The large pockets with flaps and big round buttons lend enough of a military air to this jacket. The upturned collar and body hugging lines make this a jacket for the confident male and sure to turn heads. 100% Wool. Priced from $995
Sophistcated jacket suitable for suit wear with a hint of military - large pocket flaps and buttons. Double breasted and tailored from Baize cloth, the coat has two internal pockets. Priced around $850

Topman are doing a navy wool double breasted peacoat - cropped. Its a fantasic looking coat for those seeking a short (to the waist) coat and looks smart. Borrowing . $160
