Shockwaves gel, wax and putty for men's hair styling

Shockwaves The days of ducking your head into a pail of water and smacking a gob of wax on top to style it are over. No, really, they are. Things have moved on and its time you moved on to. Which is why its always cool to receive some hair styling tips from the style Director at a company that actually makes hair styling products. If he doesn't know what he's on about, then who the hell does?

The crew over at Shockwaves kindly sent us on some of their RE-CREATE hair styling products to test out.

Shockwaves shaper gelFirst up was shockwaves shaper gel. Hair gel is probably the most common form of hair styling product used by men. Whether you squeeze in out of a tube or scoop it out of tub, it functions pretty much the same. You can use gel for complete or partial styling. The Shockwaves shaping gel does just fine. It's hold is strong, leaves a slight gloss and dries naturally so that you don't look like you just plunged your head into the aforementioned bucket.

Shockwaves Putty

The shockwaves styling putty was a hoot. Opening up the tub and its a brown, snot green mixture and yes, it does feel like soft putty. Use it before or after drying your hair for a gravity defying style. Shockwaves styling putty gives a long lasting hold and adds plenty of shine and definition to your hair.

Shockwaves waxShockwaves wax is a hard wax for sculpting hair. Think of the quiff or ruffled spikes, or the one strand of purple dyed hair you insist protrudes from the side of your head to complete your unique style. It's perfect for precise styling. Work through the finger tips applying evenly. Especially great for fine or straight hair.

Shockwaves hair stylist Michael Douglas gave the 'how-to' on getting two of the catwalks most popular hair styles this summer.

The Fringe

The FringeWhether using straightening irons or enjoying a wavier feel, the most important thing is texture. Bring the hair from the temples and crown towards the forehead. Using the Shockwaves Re-Create Styling Putty will guarantee long lasting hold with a slightly messy look. Applying the putty to dry hair and twisting it forward with your fingers will give you some natural movement – the perfect festival chic look.

The Quiff

The QuiffStart by blow drying your hair straight, this will work best when styling this look. Rub a coin-sized amount of the Shockwaves Re-Create Styling Wax and work through the top of the hair in an upwards motion keeping the sides of the hair flat to the head – this will add height to the quiff for a more dramatic look. Simple but effective!
