It all starts with a picture. In 2004, a year old picture of Allison Stokke (17 at the time), a high school pole vaulter, was posted on the internet. The image showed her waiting for her go, idly adjusting her hair. It was an instant hit, in a way only the internet can do so. The picture was plastered across forums and galleries worldwide, going viral and making Allison an internet sensation.
The picture depicted a model of perfection - toned, tanned, fit and sporty. Everything a girl might aspire to. Everything a guy would dream of. Within days, 1,000 messages awaited her on myspace, and a video on YouTube of her analysing a previous performance had been watched 150,000 times.
That was just for beginners. Now, nearly 2,000,000 views later, Stokke is one of the few internet stars that have managed to keep their clothes on. There's been leaks of her sun-bathing, studying, partying, college - all the normal things perverts like to see, but despite offers she's steadfastly refused to strip. Which, in our book is a good thing. We love the image of vibrant health. That's what makes the image stand out, what makes it unique and what made it an internet sensation.
As much as people might wish that Stokke was famous for her pole vaulting (which she excels at - we reckon plenty more records to be smashed by this girl), the image is famous in it's own right. Not because people wanted to see her naked and perve (well, the minority did, but they want to see everybody nekkid), but because the picture depicts what health is.
