Alizée Jacotey is one of those girls that give French ladies their reputation for being sexy in a way that only Europeans who eat frog legs can. Born in Ajaccio, Corsica, she goes under the stage name Alizée. She first came to fame after winning the talent show Graines de Star in 1999. She had planned to enter as a dancer but that category was full so instead she went for the singing category. Some people just got all the luck.
Born 21st August, 1984 she has released three studio albums. Gourmandises was certified Platinum making Alizée the highest selling French singer of 2001. Her image was carefully controlled by Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat who were managing her at the time.

Her second album, Mes Courants Électriques didn't do so well. In 2003 she married Jérémy Chatelain and took a break from singing. Four years later in 2007, she reappeared with her third album Psychédélices which she produced without her mentor Myléne Farmer.
A new album is expected shortly from Alizée who said in 2009 that it would be very different from what she'd done before. The first song from the Album is 'Limelight' and it's in English.
Her image of innocent sexiness has had critics moaning that it detracted from her music. Others have been moaning she needs her sex appeal to sell very average albums. But as a young artist with two albums by the time she was 20, it's possible Alizée hadn't quiet found her groove. How many young girls get shoved into the over sexed, nicely packaged, bland pop category before they really find their rut? Britney Spears being Exhibit number 1. Her next album is going to be crucial in deciding if she's going to stay stuck in the past or take control of her own musical direction.
