Picking the wrong jewelry can have you looking femine faster than wearing your girlfriends dress would. If you choose to wear jewelry, wear it to enhance an image, not as the basis for one! Jewelry on its own will do little for you - combine with correctly matching clothing it will enhance your image and make a statement about who you are.
Women are used to wearing jewelry. They can spend hours mixing and matching jewelry with outfits. They have been brought up in this fine art. Men break down into two groups when it comes to jewelry. Those that don't wear it and those that wear too much of it. The balance needs to be just right. And then the jewelry needs to fit in with our image and clothing. Chunky gold chains with silver striped suits do not match!
The fashion trend in mens jewelry for 2008 is all leather. That means leather wristbands and leather necklaces. Solid leather rings may be worn where appropiate. But thats not to say that precious metals are out.
Lets begin with the macro and work down to the micro. Before picking any jewelry have a think about the image you want to project and the clothes you will be wearing. Just as you can't wear every shirt with every suit (at least we hope you can't) so you can't wear every piece of jewelry with every item of clothing.
A very simple and natural divide exists between precious metals and more alternative forms of jewlery such as rubber or leather. If your image is more upmarket, rich, business like or flash then metals will work better than other material for jewelry. Age also presents a natural division. Under 35's can get away with non-metal jewelry. Older men wearing youthful jewelry is like seeing your grandfather in ripped jeans. The jeans might be cool but its still just plain wrong.
Neclaces Keep is simple! Overly complex necklaces do not suit men. We are not saying necklaces have to be boring. They can be bold and brash, but a simply style is best - and stick with one color! For centuries necklaces have been made out natural materials like pebbles, shells, stones, metals and animal hides. Do not mix and match them. If you want to wear more than one necklace then they should all be the same material. Those with shorter necks are better suited to thinner necklaces, conversely, if you have a longer neck you can pick a thicker one. If you are attempting to look rich or more powerful stick with a medium thickness chain. Thin chains are in contrast to the luxurious image you are attempting to portray. Very thick and bold chains are great for gangsta's and mafia dons. We recoment you avoid unless you are one. The most common material for mens neclases are Gold, silver and platinium. All necklaces should be worn naturally inside the shirt. If you are a rapper, musician, artist or a gangster you may proceed to leave the chain hanging outside your attire.
Bracelets Much the same rules can be applied to bracelets. In particular though multiple leather bands are fashionable for 2008 as are solid leather bands and solid metal braclets. The braclets should be as tight as a watch strap - rather than being allowed ride up and down the forearm. Precious metal chain bracelets are out for 2008 so put them away.

Rings Its not just married men that are wearing solid bands in 2008. Made of leather or silver, bands are looking well. They can be worn on the thumb for the youger male (under 30!). Avoid wearing them on the wedding finger(left hand, fourth finger). The obvious exception is if you are married.
Ankle bracelets. Let no one convince you they are cool on men. Their not. Avoid. |
