What is a watch? A watch, according to Wiki, is a timepiece that is made to be worn on a person, as opposed to a clock which is not. The term now usually refers to a wristwatch, which is worn on the wrist with a strap, while a pocketwatch, the common type before World War I, is carried in a pocket and often has an attached chain to lift it out.

I tell you this because they are becomingly increasingly rare thesedays. How many times do you drag your high tech phone from your pocket to check the time? All the while admiring the beauty of its thinness? Ever flick the Channell on the TV to garner the time?
Its rare these days that you ever loose touch with time. Its on the phone, TV, most public buildings have a clock. But items we use and wear are seldom about function alone. For instance, we buy phones because they can look cool, unique, do some pretty amazing things - its not just about the ability to make and receive calls.
So it goes the same with watches. I'm convinced watches can provide a great deal of information about a man. Not just because the watch is a well known brand. Take Rolex for example. Sure, having a rolex watch may hint at being wealthy but the rest of the information we gather can come down to they type of rolex.
When choosing a watch think about the type of image your want to portray. Sporty? Business Like? Flashy? Reserved? Brash and Confident?
Lets delve deeper. The business person watches time. Our image of them can be summed up as 'busy person rushing'. There're always in a rush. Their watch should be crisp and easily viewable. Modestly Flash! Though of a different style, the watch on the left bears a striking resemblence in its features. Again it is crisp and clean, easily readable and shows a clean edge to all its sides. Remember, business watches should not be garish or overpowering and should not distract from the person. They should be subtle in that they are noticed, but not overtly so.
Want to project a Sporty Image? More youthful? Get Chronographs and a slightly bulkier watch. Go with something thats busy looking and obvious. Ifs its dedicated sportsman you wish to project, get bulky, busy but keep the watch clear cut and defined, such as the one below:
Notice how this one is slightly more complex looking and more timing orientated than simply telling time function of a business watch?
Want to go reserved? Stick with old materials - leather straps are ideal for covertly picking up on this theme. None of them brash metal clasp straps for you!
Heading for a drugs drop and want to ooze confidence for you're peers? Pick something loud and flashy. Diamond encrusted, gold plated watches, that you can read from 12 feet away are the ideal things to wear at times like these.
