Coats are one of those items of clothing that we never really think about. We all have one or two coats thrown around. And we wear them with everything. We wear the same coat with our suit as we do with our jeans. Its time to put a bit more thought into the whole coat thing.
We've broken coats into three categories - formal, casual and semi-formal.Ideally we should have one of each. Formal Mens Coats
We say formal in the sense of any business or formal occassion such as weddings. They should be dressy, fashionable and discreet. Formal coats should enhance our attire - not hide ie. Most formal coats are either full length or 3/4 length. Remember to color coordinate with any suits you have! Black coats are the most most common color for formal wear but do not suit every suit. Never wear black coats with blue suits for instance. Wool and cashmere are great materials for formal coats as they look great but keep you warm as well. Keep formal coats simple in design with not too many embellishments. The one on the right is from Frech Connection priced at $220. JOHAN line by J. Lindeberg. Dressy yet formal. From $650
Casual Mens Coats Casual coats are for everyday wear. But that doesn't mean they can be shabby or make us look grubby. Casual coats should be bought in the same way we buy jumpers - we don't just buy them to keep us warm. If we did, we'd all be going around with silly knitted santa's on the front. There's a huge range of styles and fabric to choose from and which one you wear depends on what image you are attempting to put together! Below are some of the ones we love.
