Ever wonder why male actors and models always look flawless? It may be because they have the time and energy to work out rather than babysit three screaming midnight terrors but a lot has to do with makeup, cleansers and moisturizers.
Men’s makeup has come a long way. Its really only something that has taken hold and been developed in the last ten years. Previously any makeup applied to men was of the female variety. Now there are shelves full of the products in men’s stores.
Here we give you the basics for achieving a flawless look. As with a lot of things in life, the key is consistency. Cleanse, moisturize and protect your face and it will reap big dividends now and especially as you grow older.
Brow / Beard Correctors
Used on the brow and beard naturally. They are like eyeliner pens and are not for drawing funny pictures. If you have any holes in your beard, or weird shaped eyebrows these offer a quick fix solution. Simply color in. They are not suitable for covering large areas. The ones pictured are from KenMen Spa and come in shades suitable for blonds, redheads and dark colored hair.
Eye Care
Eye care can either be curative or preventive. Curative conceal or correct any skin imperfections and discolorations. Preventive stops them from happening in the first place. Skin around the eye is the most fragile so it is usually the first to show signs of age. A good quality eye cream will target fine lines and wrinkles. As a preventative measure we love (RRP $10.50). If you require a quick fix concealer try manKind concealers - reasonably priced from around $33 - $60. Don't rub it in - pat it in instead working from the outside of the eye to the inside. Aftershave Balm Aftershave balms and creams are not moisturizers as such. They help sooth shaving rashes by taking the burn out of shaving and will help heal blemishes and minor shaving nicks. For those who suffer from in-growing hairs choose one designed to help free trapped hairs. Aftershave balms should not be used as everyday moisturizers. We like clinique's post shave healer, priced from $30.
Lip Balm Wind and cold in particular can cause dry cracked lips. Try Kiehls lip balm from $8.50. This is non-shine so should not be noticeable on lips.
Face Cleanser Before you moisturize you gotta scrub. A good facial cleanser will help remove grease and unclog pores. This prevents blackheads and acne from developing. Anthony Logistics have a great facial cleanser that doesn't dry out your skin. Anthony Logistics Algae Facial Cleanser uses glycerin, aloe and natural plant extracts. Use twice a day.
Mens Moisturizers Moisturize after cleansing the face. If you can always use a moisturizer with Sun Protection Factor of 15 or higher. Its amazing the effects sun has on your skin (wrinkles, blemishes, pre-mature ageing) so using a moisturizer with a SPF will give your skin a fighting chance. We like moisturizers that are non-greasy and non-shine. We're going to stick with Anthony Logistics Facial moisturizer (SPF 15) which fits the bill perfectly, from $31.
