Has Philip Lim just watched The Matrix? The futuristic looking creations on display at his Fall 2010 men's collection wouldn't look out of place on Neo. We loved Lim's Fall 2010 collection. The stage was set with a simple walkway angling upwards at the rear, models with the same hairstyle, gloves and boots. The set and those simple touches all lending to the feeling that we were witnessing a parade of our future selves in the year 2080 - when we all conform to the same prototype.
Philip Lim's Spring Summer (SS) men's collection for 2010 did not do justice to what the man is capable of. It just didn't float our boat. Sure, Lim is a great designer. Since launching he was deservedly awarded the 2007 Council of Fashion Designers of America emerging talent award. It shines through in his collections.
Is it summer? With all the blacks on display in Calvin Klein's Spring Summer (SS) mens collection for 2010 one could be forgiven for double checking that we weren't watching the Fall collection. But that's OK. The black is cool, lightened with sheer mesh, the signature minimalist look and a palette of pale colors to compliment.
Bottega Veneta plumped for casual elegance in it's Spring Summer 2010 men's collection. More structured and formal than Bottega Veneta 2009, the clothes took on darker shades, lightened by mixes of color including burnt reds, shades of brown and green and even blacks for the more formal wear. Bottega made great use of pattern and prints to break the colors apart into a lighter look.
Adam Kimmel's cowboy collection for Spring Summer 2010 bears all the hallmarks of being inspired by the Marlboro man. Donning an outfit from the spring summer 2010 collection would be just fine. Gathering up a posse of mates and donning the entire collection together would have you looking as a bunch of cowboy clowns.
