Christina Aguilera really broke into the big-time after her debut album Christina Aguilera(1999). Her second album, Stripped(2002) displayed a provacative Christina, and garned much media comment and critique. One particular single on that album, 'Beautiful' was an immediate world wide hit.

Winning her many male fans was her single 'Dirrty', a number one hit in many countries worldwide, but which didn't do as well in the United States. That pulsating track had her hopping around in a bikini and leather doing all sorts of provocative moves. A fantasic video and song.

Then at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, we got to watch Christina and Madonna kiss. Truly inspired and one that still brings a smile to our faces today! It was another four years before Christina released her third album, Back to Basics(2006). It was a blend of styles, most notably jazz, blues and soul music. Winning critical acclaim, it firmly established Christina Aguilera as one of the most successful modern female artists. After her marriage (see below) a more mature and refined Christina emerged and it showed in this showcase of her talent.
Born in Ney York, Aguilera always dreamed of being a singer. In her neighbourhood, Aguilera was often referred to as 'the little kid with the big voice'. She has often pointed to 'The Sound of Music' as an inspiration in her early years. With over 25 million albums sold worlwide, her appeal has been widespread. Christina married Jordan Bratman in 2005, and in 2007 confirmed rumours that she was indeed pregnant. Wearing a heart monitor during performances that took place in the early stages of pregnancy, she posed for pictures for Marie Claire Magazine whilst pregnant.

Whatever I do, it's my business. It's not my job to parent America.
This last quote in particular shows Aguilera in a light that is rare to find amongst top performers these days. Aguilera has displayed a remarkable ability to be her own person. Ignoring critics and commentators alike she has done as she wished in her videos and performances, and for this we salute her! |
