Only for the true geeks. Or Astronomers. Point the MySky up at a star, pull the trigger at it magically identifies the star! Its rather cool in that it has a space age feel about it. We were half hoping that some death ray would come out of it and Boom! The star would self implode. But alas we had to make do with being able to tell everybody what star was what.
With 3 modes (Identify, Find and Guided tour) the MySky will certainly while away a few hours. We used the 'Identify' and 'Find' modes mostly and the results are pretty good. Only in one instance did it fail to locate any information! Some important (or not) specifications: - Sights - Illuminated red sights to easily point to objects
- Earphones - Comfortable high-fidelity ear buds included for audio
- Positioning - Electronic accelerometers to determine tilt/pointing
- Audio - 500+ Audio/Multi-media presentations by NPR Stardate personality, Sandy Wood. Including interesting science facts, mythology, folklore, and astrophotography.
- Orientation - Magnetic north sensors
- LCD - 480 x 234 pixel full color display
- Object Database - Database of over 30,000 celestial objects (planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies & more)
- Storage - 256 Megabyte SD card (included)
- GPS - 12 channel GPS receiver
- Power save features - Advanced power saving features to extend battery life
- Compatibility - Can optionally control any Meade computerized telescope.
- Night Vision - Optional mode to display screen entirely in red to protect your night vision.
- Battery Life - Up to 6 hours (normal use)
- Upgradeable - Software upgradeable from meade.com
- Batteries - 4 AA batteries required (not included)
Priced at a rather heft $299 and upwards. So not for those with short attention spans. |
