Drinking and sobriety don't exactly go hand in hand. But it can be done with a little effort. I'm particularly woeful at any semblance of being sober when drinking, but these fabled tips may help you to retain some sense of dignity for the night.

1. Eat before you Drink Drinking on an empty stomach allows the alcohol to soak more quickly into the bloodstream. Over time it can also harm the stomach lining. The best types of food to eat are proteins and salty foods - cheese, nuts, eggs, pickles etc. 2. Drink low volume beer. Pick a light alcoholic beer to drink. The less alcohol in the beer the more of it you have to drink to achieve the same effect as a stronger beer. An average man can get rid of a half ounce of alcohol in an hour. 3. Don't mix it up! Once you start with a drink, make it a rule to never cheat on it. Mixing drinks makes you more drunk and adds to the hangover in the morning.

4. Avoid Fizzies. Carbonated drinks carry alcohol to the bloodstream quicker. Avoid the champers for this reason. Drinking carbonated soft drinks between alcoholic drinks also makes you drunk quicker. 5. Eat! Keep eating! Not kebabs and double burgers between every round. But snacking on nuts and small treats help keep the stomach busy - and keep you from drinking. 6. Drink in shots We swear this works. Drink in shots - don't sip! And eat something salty and acid straight after. Remember the tequila routine? Drink, salt, lemon? The same can be applied to vodka and other spirits. Of course the obvious question to all this is why would you drink and try to remain sober? For those that fail to see any reason in drinking and staying sober, we've compiled the following list to get you drunk as fast as possible.
1. Don't eat. At least 6 hours before drinking begins, stay off food. 2. The strongest beer is your friend.
3. Mix it up. Party animals like to move between drinks. We recommend some beer as a warm-up, followed by some something carbonated - champagne or alco-pop fit the bill perfectly. After that move swiftly onto shots and then perhaps a round of fizzy ciders.
4. Don't snack. It wastes drinking time.
5. Find some motivation! Challenging a buddy to a drinking contest is one fine motivator. If you fail to find a challenge, set your own! See if you can imbibe more drink than your previous personal best.
