Men's Fashion
Calvin Klein's Spring Summer men's collection for 2012 is a mix of shades - yellows, greys, sea blues, black and white. Avoid the yellows, they look terrible. And we have to question the elasticated pants. It doesn't make the collection sporty and does no justice to any of the pants on show. Just like we railed against skinny jeans for men, Calvin Klein seem to have fallen towards the opposite and gone loose with their pants. Which is fine until elasticated waist bands start cropping up. Unless you like people laughing at you, avoid these.
OntFront are on the up - they've just opened their first brand name store in Amsterdam. It's always great to see a men's fashion brand take a big leap of faith rather than leaving everything to the same old brands that have been around for donkey's years. OntFront is the brainchild of Tomas Overtoom and Liza Koifman, who launched the brand in 2007 seeking to put out a new style for the fashion conscious man that had a rebellious touch.
Dsquared2 - Blood, cuts, gashes and black eyes adorned the models as they strutted their way down the catwalk. Bill Kaulitz (from the band Tokio Hotel) was lofted in a cage complete with black wings. Some of the clothes had blood stains on them. And you know what? It worked. We've come to expect something special from Dsquared2. They didn't disappoint.
Parc 81 bills itself as representing a contemporary and upscale lifestyle and for once the marketing spin describes the clothing. Founded in 1981, Parc 81 has attracted quiet a following, its clothes holding the style of the quintessential American design. Much like Calvin Klein does minimalism and Giorgio Armani does sharp suits, so Parc 81 does casual American sportswear.
There are some cars that are just fine. They do what they say, the interior is good, solid even, maybe a few flourishes of design creativity splashed on the dash. Maybe the car has got a button for ignition rather than a key - something to distinguish it from last years model. Something the consumer can brag about, to brighten up their day.
