Calvin Klein Fall Winter 2010 Men's Collection

Calvin KleinThere are some cars that are just fine. They do what they say, the interior is good, solid even, maybe a few flourishes of design creativity splashed on the dash. Maybe the car has got a button for ignition rather than a key - something to distinguish it from last years model. Something the consumer can brag about, to brighten up their day.

Other cars you sit into and you instantly cream your pants. Those are the cars that go Ooomph! They might not be practical, or safe. They probably have glaring flaws like a horrible gear change or a complete lack of traction around corners. But they are the cars we remember. Despite their flaws they went for it. They pushed the boundaries of what was possible, putting their reputation on the line to be the best. It was never about money for them, or at least profit is not what drove them on. The people that make these types of cars are passionate about what they do - even maniacal.

Its just a shame that when they do get it right, things start to change. The accountants move into a corner office alongside the design team, managers come up with plans and marketing gurus ensure everything ties in with the theme of the day. And don't forget the shareholders. Meaning the managers, marketing guys and accountants are of even greater importance. And over time the passion dies a little, slowly at first. Until you get left with shades of what the car once was. But people don't notice, because the marketing is slick, the design is flawless and hey, if you buy one of these babies you are sure to score. Big Time.

And so its a little bit like that with Calvin Klein's Fall Winter 2010 collection. Sure, its good. Almost like....a production line. The jackets are great, stunning even. Shades of black and chrome, tightly cut and with the trademark sophisticated urban styling. Hoodies featured in several outfits, sleek looking, something well worth checking out. The collection was different to last years, delivered what was expected and should sell well.

But somewhere along the line, that little bit of passion has been lost. Maybe the managers mangled it. Or the designers covered it over. Or the marketers wrapped it up with a fancy bow just too tightly. The end result is a men's collection for Fall Winter 2010 that has been churned out. Which is great - if you like ignition buttons and things that get you from point A to point B. That's what you want, right?
